Jen

“There was an account I didn't recognize. I said so at the time.”

— Jen's chat persona

Jen is a recurring character in the TickleGame universe. In Julie the Tickler she is a campus IT worker who plans the trap that captures Julie. In Julie 2: Mansion of Secrets she returns as the person who runs the mansion's cameras, locks and drives from outside, and she has her own optional storyline.

She rarely raises her voice. Her strength is access to computer systems, cameras and locks.

Appearance

Jen has blue hair. In Julie 2 her portraits show her at a desk lit by several monitors, usually relaxed and watchful. Her portraits show a range of moods, including smug, breathless, laughing and shocked.

In her Halloween short she wears a dark navy camisole and walks the mansion barefoot.

Personality

Jen is dry, deadpan and a little bored on the surface. The "whatever" attitude is an act. Underneath she is precise and patient, and she tends to set a trap before the other person has said anything.

She talks about access, records and receipts, and treats most conversations as a transaction. She respects people who out-think her more than people who flatter her. When she is caught off guard, she goes quiet for a moment before she recovers.

Her one weak point is her feet. Under the toes her calm drops and she laughs helplessly, and she admits it in the same dry voice once she catches her breath.

Story in Julie the Tickler

Jen works in campus IT, with admin access to the university's drives and cameras. While doing routine work she found a stolen archive of Julie's and Faye's content and realized whose it was. She did not act out of a grievance. She saw a chance to do to Julie what Julie did to others.

She recruited Steph and Helen. When Julie came to her for help, Jen played the cooperative innocent and said the admin account in question was one she did not recognize. The account was hers. She also pointed Julie toward Leah to hide her own part.

Jen's trap ended the game with Julie captured. The conflict was later settled: the archive was returned, Jen paid off a loan that Helen owed, and Julie's public brand survived.

Story in Julie 2

Four years later, Julie contacts Jen again about the old drive. Jen is lured to the mansion's service lift, ends up stuck in a dumbwaiter under three cameras, and loses a one-on-one match against Julie. Julie, now the Host, then puts her to work on the rest of the Host's list.

After the match Jen becomes a playable character. Her optional storyline follows three women she brings to private sessions: Sandra, a working model, Eve, Amanda's cousin, and Val, a reality TV veteran, whom Jen added to the list herself. Eve's level has three stages, with her socks on, half off and finally barefoot. Beating Eve opens a route of her own.

Once those three are done, two bonus targets open on her route: Faye and Nat. Both are people from Jen's past who were not on Julie's list.

Faye is Julie's old business partner. Jen reaches her with a text at 1:47 in the morning, after four years of silence. Faye comes alone, and the session ends with her paying off an old debt to Jen (see Story in Julie the Tickler).

Nat is the yoga teacher who gave Julie Jen's name years ago. Jen texts her out of the blue and offers to fund her dream studio in exchange for barefoot modeling and tickling on camera. She says they have unfinished business. The studio gets its floor, and Nat ends up in the stocks.

Once Jen has been beaten, a duet with Helen unlocks, in which Julie takes both of them on at once.

Behind the mansion

Spoiler warning: this section reveals story events. (click to show)

Jen and Helen ran the mansion together for four years, until Julie caught them one at a time. Helen was the public face and acted as the Host, the person who runs the house. Jen worked from outside the walls, and the drives, cameras, locks and blind spots were hers. Her security badge still opens every door.

Jen calls Helen "Hel", and Helen likes the nickname. After Helen hands the Host role to Julie, Jen says this makes Julie the Host but not her boss. Julie answers by challenging both of them in the Jen and Helen duet.

Other appearances

Jen stars in the animated short Jen and Julie, whose trailer is on the TickleGame YouTube channel.

Jen's Very Bad Halloween is a three-minute animated short with full voices. Jen walks into the mansion barefoot, the doors lock behind her, and a ghost who died laughing has been waiting for anyone named Jennifer. It was released in the October Vault together with its soundtrack.

She also appears in the September Vault animated clips alongside Helen, Chloe, Julie, Nora and Sabrina, and in the animated clips of the Jen and Helen duet.

Abilities and weaknesses

Jen's strengths are information and planning: system administration, surveillance and setting up traps in advance. She does not use physical threats.

In her own level, her main ticklish zone is her midriff. In the Jen and Helen duet, the first half targets her ribs and belly and the second her left sole. Her feet are also her weak point in her chat conversations.
